NinjaTrader: Trading Platform

In this article I will only talk about the platform offered by NinjaTrader. If you are looking for an analysis of NinjaTrader as a broker, I suggest you look at my article called: NinjaTrader Brokerage.

Is NinjaTrader the trading platform you should use?

NinjaTrader is both an industry benchmark and one of the most in-demand platforms by users, used by both novice traders and professionals with years of experience (see the best trading platforms).

I know that choosing a trading platform is a very personal matter, and that as traders we are extremely demanding when it comes to the specific features of each one.

But with over 1000 compatible add-ons, the possibility of using it for free (particularly useful during our training period) and the freedom to choose from a more than respectable number of data providers, it's hard to find a more enticing option than NinjaTrader.

NinjaTrader Analysis

NinjaTrader, along with TradingView and MetaTrader, are my favorite trading platforms.

And the reason why NinjaTrader is because of the level of customization it offers (and I'm not just talking about changing the colors of the elements on the chart; when I talk about customization, I mean the number of tools that the software integrates with).

It's easy to fall in love with NinjaTrader, too easy in fact, and while at first the interface seems somewhat complex, the learning curve for mastering the platform is rather short compared to other tools on the market (I found it much more difficult to master Jigsaw Trading, for example).

The possibility of having an 'ecosystem' (NinjaTrader Ecosystem) where it is possible to find almost any type of technical indicator and/or automated strategy makes NinjaTrader an alternative that I cannot do without in my trading with Futures.

And if you're thinking of applying for a funded account with Topstep, let me tell you that NinjaTrader is one of the platforms this firm uses (Still don't know what Topstep is?).

It is also worth noting that if you do not want to use any additional tools, NinjaTrader offers similar features natively in most cases. Therefore, from the same platform you will have access to the SuperDOM, the Tape, the Volume Profile, Volumetric Candlesticks, Moving Averages, Bollinger Bands, Fibonacci, MACD, etc.

Click here to find out about the best funding accounts

We can even choose to customize our charts with tick graphs if we wish (not all platforms offer this option).

Those who pay for the license will have access to a whole set of Order Flow tools (What is Order Flow?).

Ninjatrader 8

As I've already mentioned, the platform can be used for free while you practice; under this modality you can benefit from it by accessing:

Real-time futures data.
Unlimited real-time forex data.
EOD (End Of Day) data for stocks, futures, and currencies.

Let's say you can't practice during the American CL session (where volume and therefore volatility are higher) because you're at work, well no problem, NinjaTrader allows you to trade on the day and time you choose through Market Replay.

Just download the data for the day and time you prefer and practice when you have time (when I started, many of my trading colleagues practiced at the end of the day when their children were already in bed and the next day they shared the charts of the cash session so that we could all compare results and strategies).

There are 3 different ways to access the NinjaTrader platform: the free option (practicing in demo is the best way to learn), the rental option , and finally the purchase option where you get a lifetime license for the platform

Obviously, commission prices are not the same for those who rent the platform as for those who have paid for the lifetime license, with only the latter allowing access to some of the most competitive commissions in the Futures market through its brokerage service called NinjaTrader Brokerage.

As I said before, you also have the option of using the platform with other well-known brokerage services such as Interactive Brokers, Oanda , or TD Ameritrade, among others.

Conclusions about NinjaTrader:

In summary, NinjaTrader offers everything a trader needs:add-onsornon-add-saves, native indicators, integration with powerful Order Flow tools, options from renowned brokerage services, low commissions, real-time data, and customization to your liking.

But above all, you'll have the opportunity to access and test the tool for free. So, you don't need my recommendation; try it out and then tell me what you think.

I've been asked to join the Facebook group. I don't quite understand what selling a license privately involves; isn't it a serial number linked to a single person?

Hi Jose,

In theory, it shouldn't be done (NinjaTrader prohibits it in the sales contract). Everyone will know how to proceed.

Hello, I have a live account with the Ninja platform, but my account balance is very small and I can't afford to buy a license directly from Ninja. My question is whether anyone who bought a lifetime license and stopped using it for whatever reason sells it at a lower price or rents it out

Thank you

Hi Rodrigo, do you still have the lifetime multibroker license for NinjaTrader 8 Plus available?

Hello.

One question. Do you know if the order flow includes the range 10 configuration? I'm learning with that configuration and I'd like to know.

Thank you so much.

Hi Ivan,

I don't quite understand your question. Are you referring to the Order Flow tools included in the lifetime version of NinjaTrader? If so, which one? What tool are you currently using? If you provide these details, I might be able to answer your question.

Hello. I've already seen my question:

https://ninjatrader.com/LicenseComparison

I was referring to the Orderflow+ pack and the indicator called Volumetric Bars. It's included free with the full-time license. Regarding the 10-minute range, I saw in a Futures.io video that they do have the option to use the bars in a 10-minute range. Normally, you see the bars in 5-minute, 15-minute, etc. timeframes, but I also needed the 10-minute range configuration.

Hey Jose, let me tell you,

If you want Ninjatrader, the only option for futures that accepts us is Interactive Brokers, but as I mentioned… to open an account you need 10k.

I am currently with FuturesOnline's compensation firm, Gain Capital, and they do accept Panamanians or residents of Panama.

I'm using a platform like Multicharts.Net, which is very similar to NinjaTrader. There are a few things I'm still adapting to… “like how to mark an area and have it marked on all charts.” NinjaTrader does that.

Otherwise, the platform is pretty good.

I hope I was able to help you

Greetings to all and best wishes

The only downside I see to this platform is that if their clearing firms don't accept you, as in my case because I'm from Panama/a resident, it's difficult to find another futures broker to trade with.

The only one that works correctly with its platform is Interactive Brokers, and to open an account you need 10k.

Hi Mario,

Thanks for your comment; I honestly wasn't aware of what you mentioned. They work with Oanda, among others. Has this broker also given you problems because you're a resident of Panama? (I don't really understand the reason for the restriction.)

Greetings

Well, the truth is that since I'm only used to futures and I really like the platform, I asked the NinjaTrader support team after my account opening request was rejected, and their response was the following:
__

The only other futures broker that works with is IB, and you can also trade stocks with IB or TD Ameritrade.

Regarding your rejected account opening request, please accept our apologies. Phillip used to open accounts, but they have changed their rules and no longer open accounts for residents or citizens of Panama. We have no control over this; these are compliance decisions made by the Clearing Firms

Thank you, and sorry for the inconvenience
__

And that's how I ended up adrift with NinjaTrader 🙁 Just so you know!!! I think it's an excellent platform.

Hi, I'm a resident of Panama and I'm experiencing the same problem as Mario. I was using NinjaTrader and wanted to open a live futures account, but they rejected me because I'm from Panama. It's difficult for me because I was already used to the platform. I wanted to know if there are any other brokers that accept Panamanian clients.

Thank you.

Hi Jose,

I understand you shouldn't have any problems with Libertex , but of course you won't have NinjaTrader available for trading. Perhaps Mario can help us.

Hi Mario, nice to meet you. After four years, were you finally able to open a NinjaTrader account? I'm a resident of Panama and I don't see that option yet. What do you recommend? Thanks

Hi friend, I have a question. Besides NinjaTrader, what other platforms do you use to complement your trading? Greetings from Chile.

Hi Miguel,

I use Jigsaw Trading tools as a complement. Currently, I base my trading on Price Action, Volume Profile, and finally the DOM when defining entry points.

Hello,

I would like to know what the difference is between Dorman and Phillip for someone from Colombia, when opening an account.

Thank you.

Hello Cesar,

I'm with Dorman. Honestly, I have no complaints, but regarding the differences, I don't really recall there being many. In theory, it's easier to work with Phillips if you're in the USA, while Dorman would be the option for international clients like you and me. There's not much more to it than that.

Hello.
I have a question about the guarantees/security of funds with NinjaTrader Brokerage, and I'd also like to know who regulates them.
Could you provide me with details?
Thank you

Hello Emmanuel,

I must admit that regulations aren't my strong suit, but as far as I understand, NinjaTrader is a member of the NFA (The National Futures Association) and registered with the CFTC (The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission), which are the regulatory bodies. Regarding the security of funds, I can tell you that NinjaTrader, being an Introducing Broker (usually known as an IB), acts as an intermediary between clients and a clearing broker (in the case of Futures, they work with Dorman Trading and Phillip Capital). Therefore, guarantees and security depend on Dorman Trading and Phillip Capital.

I don't know if this answers your question.

Greetings
